| Former Australian PM, Malcolm Turnbull |
The past week has been anything but good in
the Australian political landscape. Long drawn infighting among the ruling
party's top echelon led to the removal of PM Malcolm Turnbull and appointment
of Scott Morrison as Australia's new prime minister. This power shift resulted
in a decline in trust scores for the Australian government and the Liberal
Party, according to poll results. Now more than ever, Australia's main
opposition party, Labour Party has a chance of taking some seats in the MP
which will somewhat change the current political structure from a one-party
government.
Former PM, Malcolm
Turnbull
Come Friday, ousted Australian PM, Malcolm
Turnbull is set to resign his position as a Member of Parliament representing
Wentworth. If this happens, a by-election will take place to fill the vacant
seat. With the outcome of the bye-election having an influence on the power
share in the Federal Parliament, the Liberal Party has a pain point to fix by
winning the election. Already polls show that former PM has a lot of personal
votes in the overall statistics showing the number of Liberal supporters in
Wentworth.
Mr. Turnbull's resignation won't be the only
negative after effect the Liberal Party will suffer for ousting its PM. Another
MP, Julia Banks has made public her decision not to run in the next election
for the Federal Parliament seat for her current constituency, Chisholm. Ms.
Banks refers to the constant bullying and intimidation she received from her
party and the main opposition party, the Labour Party as the reasons why she
will be stepping aside come next election.

In her
words, "The people of Chisholm know
that I say what I think. They know that I will always call out bad behaviour
and will not tolerate any form of bullying or intimidation," she said.
"I have experienced this both from within
my own party and from the Labor Party."
These events are undoubtedly ominous for the
Liberal party's government and future political. Although Australia is not
facing something new, it would still take a lot of expertise to navigate the
country's politics to a more stable state. Hence, appeasing the citizens and
the political stakeholders is a paramount duty of the new PM Scott Morrison.
