General Muhammadu Buhari in his acceptance speech
at the All Progressives Congress national
convention where he emerged as the APC
presidential candidate has said that his call to you
serve Nigerians is a call made due to the love he
has for NIgerians and Nigeria.
The speech read thus
The outcome of the APC is a demonstration of how
democracy works. It is testimoy to the fact that
democracy’s concept is greater than individual
interest in a free and functioning political system.
What has just happened here today is not about
winning or losing but it is about the freedom of
choice and association which are the hallmark of
democracy.
To other aspirants, I wish to thank you for putting
so much fight in the election. The keenly contested
primary will help to strengthen the party and the
country’s democracy. It will also send our wish to
Nigerians in the forthcoming election.
I shall meet with you very soon to fashion out how
we can win the battle to rescue the country from
those who have led us to the state of insecurity,
poverty, sectarian divide among others.
My call to you Nigerians is a call made due to the
love for the country and concern for its present
condition.
Irrespective of our status in the country, we are
all citizens of the great country.
Preserving the country’s future is the sacred
obligation of all in this party.
Sadly, the current administration does not believe
in this obligation. By their action, they are leading
us to calamity.
At international conferences, the Nigerian
delegation is always the largest but the least
effective. Our status should command respect but
at the moment, we among the weakest.
Shall we continue to live in a nation where several
youths died in search of job. And the central
government has not investigate their death.
If I am elected, I will govern the country inline with
the constitution of the country.
We will strive to improve the economy of this great
nation.
We will strive to address poverty through broadly-
shared economic growth and address corruption
through impartial application of the law.
I will tolerate no religious, regional, ethnic or
gender bias in our government.
I will return Nigeria to a position of international
respect through active and wise foreign policy.
We will select the best Nigerians for posts in my
government.
Our government will institute policies that would
afford the citizens the dignity of work and minimum
wage for their sweat.
We shall implement a national infrastructure master
plan that will further improve the economy of the
nation.
Our government when elected, will allow the
Economic Financial Crime Commission, EFCC to
investigate independently.
